4th Annual Benefit Breakfast Served Up Great Results.
Thank You for donating over $16,000 at our 4th Annual Benefit Breakfast. Alki Bakery served up a scrumptious meal, Jamerika Haynes, the current Ms .Evergreen and Auburn Mayor Nancy Backus welcomed our guests and Captain Lisa Barnes once again captivated the audience as she shared her story of being in over 30 foster homes when she was growing up. Though Eileen & Callie’s Place didn’t exist then, other organizations and people committed to assisting girls in care made a difference in the choices she made. Those choices led her to eventually becoming a captain in the Salvation Army and to co-pastor with her husband the Salvation Army Church in White Center, WA.
Dr. Ellington assured everyone that the vision to open a home for girls aging out of foster care is still alive and growing strong. Since each city has specific codes regarding how many unrelated people can live in one single family home, the quest to find and establish a site in South King County is challenging but doable. In the meantime, the focus is on building the mentoring program. The goal is to recruit girls that are turning 18, aging out of the system and open to working with a mentor and for that purpose Celebrate 18! was started!
